Is the TomTom 250 GPS System Compatible With Mac Computers?
- The TomTom XL 250 GPS in-car navigation system can be used right out of the box. But if you want to keep its maps up to date or if you want to personalize it (by saving frequently used addresses, or changing the system's voice, for example), you will need to install the free TomTom HOME software on your computer and sync the XL 250 to your Mac.
- TomTom HOME can be downloaded from the TomTom website (see References). TomTom HOME allows you to save favorite routes, purchase and install new navigation voices, get updated maps and alerts, and more.
- It's easy to use the TomTom HOME software on your Mac. Once you've downloaded and installed TomTom HOME on your Mac, start it up and connect the XL 250 using the supplied USB cable. TomTom HOME will prompt you with a list of options for personalizing your XL 250.
- You will need to be using Mac OS X 10.4 or greater in order to use TomTom HOME. Also, a high-speed Internet connection is preferred, because of the size of the downloadable maps, voices and other options. TomTom advises using TomTom HOME with your XL 250 once a week in order to get the latest map updates.
