How to Decorate a Guest Room With a Bunkbed
- 1). Paint the walls or put up wallpaper that creates a soothing atmosphere for your guests. Light, cool colors make the room feel larger and open the space, allowing both bunks to feel less constraining. White, light blue, light green or pale yellow work, or stick with a light beige if you prefer a neutral color that goes with nearly any decor. Paint vertical stripes on the walls if you want to give the appearance of a taller room, particularly behind the bunk bed.
- 2). Include other pieces of furniture that match the bunk bed, such as a nightstand, chest of drawers or armoire. Guests should have a place to store their clothes and belongings while staying with you. Add a chair or comfortable place to sit if possible. Consider a bunk bed with a full-sized bed on bottom if the room will house adult and juvenile guests.
- 3). Use clean, colorful linens on both bunks that match or complement each other. For example, use a blue and yellow floral pattern on the lower bunks for adults or teen girls and blue and yellow stripes or polka dots for younger children on the top bunk. If the room is primarily for your grandchildren or kids' friends, use kid-friendly bedding. Solid-colored sheets or comforters can easily be changed with novelty throw pillows or fresh duvet covers to allow you to decorate the room specifically for the guests who will occupy the space.
- 4). Add extra lighting by installing wall sconces or lamps so guests have access to a light from either bunk. For example, add a clip-on lamp to the top bunk and a traditional lamp on a nightstand by the lower bunk. Nightlights should illuminate the top bunk as well as the lower bunk.
- 5). Hang a mirror, artwork or wall sculptures on the walls opposite the bunk bed. Opt for soothing images, such as nature pictures, that appeal to a variety of people. Avoid hanging family pictures in the room as it may make guests feel like intruders. Don't hang anything above the top bunk to prevent falling objects in the middle of the night.
- 6). Accessorize the room with items that your guests might find useful and help make their stay in your home more comfortable. Include an alarm clock, radio or TV, a tray to store jewelry or small items and a basket of towels and toiletries. Hang a small basket or bin near the top bunk to keep books or other lightweight items handy for the guest who sleeps up there.
