How to Respool a Shakespeare Fishing Reel
- 1). Pull the old fishing line off the reel. Open the bale of the reel, or depress the thumb bar, and unwind the fishing line from the reel.
- 2). Attach the Shakespeare reel to a fishing rod, which will make the process of adding line easier.
- 3). Grab the end of the fishing line and put it through the tip of the fishing rod, and then through the remainder of the rod guides.
- 4). Wrap the line around the reel's spool. Wrap the line a second time, and then tie a knot so the line is tight around the spool. Cut extra line that extends above the knot, though it is a good idea to maintain 1/8 of an inch, which will prevent the knot from slipping and falling apart.
- 5). Spin the reel handle clockwise to add line onto the spool. Continue turning the reel handle until the line is just below the top of the spool.
- 6). Cut the line so it hangs from the tip of the rod.
