Nolan Legacy Could Live on in

40
Christopher Nolan's €Batman€ series ended with €The Dark Knight Rises.€

Or did it?

What if the saga continued in the upcoming €Justice League€ movie?
And yes, this is a spoiler section.

For those few who have yet to see the movie (and you should have seen it in I-MAX), "The Dark Knight Rises" ends with Bruce Wayne faking his death and retiring with Selina Kyle. Before Wayne goes, he gives Robin Drake, the hot-headed cop played by Joseph Gordon Levitt, the keys to the Tumbler. Gordon returns as the commish.

Now think about it.

You've got a series that's made over a billion dollars worldwide. Why throw away that continuity just because your brilliant director wants to move on?

Don't answer that Marvel/ Sony.

Just because the guy's name is €Robin€ doesn't mean he has to become that character. I mean, in Nolan's world, a kid in orange, black and yellow just ain't gonna fit.

Besides; which Robin is Drake? I'd argue that he's all of them. He's a cop like Dick Grayson; he's a hot-head like Jason €dead man€ Todd; he leaps into situations to prove himself worthy like Damian; he's also got some mad detective skills like Tim Drake.

Why limit Drake to Robin when he can be Batman? As established by Nolan and expressed by Wayne himself, Batman €is more than a man; he's a symbol.€

Anybody can be a symbol.

Predictably, the new Christopher Nolan-produced Superman movie €Man of Steel€ will begin the juggernaut towards a Justice League movie. There's even a rumored hint at Wonder Woman within that movie.
Warner Bros., the studio behind the DC comics movies (both owned by Time Warner), could easily slide Drake into the Justice League movie as Batman. This would eliminate the need to find a new actor.

It would also feed off Gordon-Levitt's rise to super-stardom after his turns in €TDKR€ and the upcoming €Looper€ with Bruce Willis.
Drake's inclusion would also establish a Justice League of fledgling heroes, still looking to hone their talents while working with others. This also opens the door for a mentor figure for the team.

Who better than retired and dead legend Bruce Wayne, establishing a precedent set by the €Batman Beyond€ animated series? Even if Wayne never appeared in the JL movie, when Warner does the inevitable solo Batman film, they could go the €Beyond€ route.

Please note that this is all dreaming on my part. Warner Bros., who owns the rights to Batman as a comic book and a movie, have in no way said this would be the plan going forward. Hell, Nolan insisted that despite producing the new Superman movie, €Man of Steel,€ he didn't want further involvement in the DC comic book movies.

Guess he's not looking for a permanent cush gig like Joss Whedon at Marvel Studios.

Realistically, Warner Bros. will jettison Nolan's work as a different continuity. They'll recast a new, younger actor as the Bruce Wayne Batman and put him in the Justice League, with a new Batman solo series a spin-off from the JL movie.

But one can dream€¦
