How to Make Friends in California
- 1). Think about what it is you like to do--hiking, yoga, meditation, reading. Consider what kind of atmosphere would put you at ease, but make sure it's something you really enjoy.
- 2). Do some research online to find different organizations that coordinate hikes in your area. Go on one of these hikes. Introduce yourself to people and be natural. Let the conversation flow naturally.
- 3). Find out if your city has any yoga in the park (if you're into yoga). Go to a yoga class (most are on Saturdays and Sundays), and don't rush away after class. Stay and talk--perhaps people are grabbing a coffee.
Get a library card from the local library. Ask about the book club. Join it. Meet people who read actual books. - 4). Take a downtown art walk if you're in Los Angeles. Look in one of the weekly papers for information. Look online and check out some of the "happenings." Go and strike up a conversation over a complimentary glass of wine (or two).
- 5). Enroll in a wine-tasting class (or any kind of class). Get a catalog from one of the many community colleges in California or from an extension program. Join a class to learn to do something you've always wanted to do. Make pots or jewelry. Learn how to throw a mean punch or bake an awesome cake. Strike up conversation while mixing.
