How to Repair Windows XP From a CD ROM

    • 1). Put the Windows XP installation CD in the CD drive on your computer, and turn on the computer.

    • 2). Wait for the re-installation wizard to appear on the screen. The first prompt you see will tell you to press any key to continue with the Windows XP installation. Press any key and then wait for the Windows installation disc to load. This can take several minutes.

    • 3). Wait for the "Welcome" screen to appear, and then select "Enter" to continue. The next screen will show you the Windows operating system installed on your computer.

    • 4). Move the up or down arrow key on your computer to highlight your Windows XP operating system. Once it is highlighted, you have the option to repair the Windows XP installation or to do a clean install of Windows XP. Select "R" to repair your Windows XP.

    • 5). Accept any terms of agreement that you are prompted to, and hit "Next."

      You will be asked to enter your product key, which is found either on the Windows XP installation disc or its cover, or on the outside of your computer. Enter the product key and continue.

    • 7). Wait for the Windows XP repair to finish. This can take a long time. When the repair has finished, the computer will restart itself automatically and notify you that the repair process is finished.

    • 8). Reinstall or upgrade any programs that were added to your computer since your last windows repair or installation. Check for Windows updates to update your version of Windows XP.
