How to Replace the Dipstick in a 1997 Hyundai Elantra
- 1). Contact your local Hyundai service center and inform them that you need an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) oil dipstick for your 1997 Hyundai Elantra. Third-party suppliers also manufacture dipsticks for this model, but the OEM model ensures the most accurate fit possible.
- 2). Keep your Hyundai Elantra's engine turned off and ensure that the engine is cooled down.
- 3). Open the hood of your Hyundai Elantra and locate the oil dipstick between the grill and the engine block -- it should have a yellow loop handle.
- 4). Pull out the old oil dipstick and insert the new one into the dipstick tube. Push it in gently and be careful not to bend the rod as you insert it further down the tube. Make sure that the base of the dipstick handle mounts flush with the dipstick tube.
