Windows 7 Media Center Closed Caption Features
- Closed captions show a text version of the audio played in a TV program. It may show that music or sound effects are playing and shows the spoken dialogue of a show. It can be helpful if you have trouble hearing or you want to see the text along with the show. Subtitles are very similar to closed captions, but are used in movies. Both are turned off by default.
- Since the closed caption feature is automatically turned off, to turn it on, click the Windows orb button and select “All Programs.” Select “Windows Media Center.” Click “Tasks” and then “Settings.” Select “TV” and then click “Closed Captioning.” From this screen, you can select “On,” “Off” or “On when muted.” After you’ve selected one, click “Save.”
- It’s possible to change the text size, style, color, edge type, windows color, window opacity and background color. To change these settings, open Windows Media Center by clicking the Windows orb button and selecting “All Programs.” Select “Windows Media Center.” Click “Tasks” and then “Settings.” Select “TV” and then click “Closed Captioning.” From this screen, click “Advanced” and then “Use my custom settings.” Use the "+" or "- " buttons to change the selections. Click “Save” when you’re finished.
- To turn subtitles on or off for DVDs, click the Windows orb button and select “All Programs.” Select “Windows Media Center.” Click “Tasks” and then “Settings.” Select “DVD” and then click “Subtitle.” From this screen, you can select “On,” “Off” or “On when muted.” After you’ve selected one, click “Save.”
