Information on the Huffy Aerowind
- The Aerowind came in both men's (10- or 12-speed) and women's models. Original gumwall tires are 1 inch by 1 3/8 inches with steel rims, three-piece Shimano cranks, Shimano AX gears and "parapul" brakes. The seats are made by Avocet.
- Like other vehicles, bicycles deteriorate over time. Even a popular early 1980s model like the Aerowind is difficult to find today in good condition, especially if original parts are desired. A collector with a well-kept Aerowind may ask $1,000, while a fixer-upper at a garage sale goes for $20.
- Originally incorporated as The Huffman Manufacturing Co., Huffy has been manufacturing bicycles since 1887. The Aerowind was modern and well-liked in its day. In recent years however, because of technological advancements and increased competition, Huffy has shifted focus to economy mountain bikes and cruisers. The Aerowind might not have a huge following, but for many it provides priceless nostalgia.
