The Disadvantages of Peel and Stick Wallpaper
- Like pulling out a roll of tape that is too long and having it fold over itself, not portioning the amount of peel and stick wallpaper properly, can lead to too much revealed adhesive that may fold over itself. Some brands are designed to be more easily peeled apart and re-adhered, while others may be rendered unusable after this occurs.
- With peel and stick wallpaper, it can be difficult to adhere a strip to the wall smoothly, without creating bubbles or folds. For this reason it is important to only expose small portions of the adhesive at a time. Some brands will pull off the wall to be smoothed more easily than others.
- Peel and stick wallpaper is intended to be a short term cosmetic change to a home. It is ideal for renters and people who like to change the look of a room frequently. If left on a wall for several years, peel and stick wallpaper is more likely to begin peeling off the wall than its pasted counterpart. It can also be peeled off more easily by children who pick at the paper; or it may be lifted by accidental scraping.
- Because peel and stick wallpaper comes with its own adhesive, it can be more expensive than traditional non-stick paper and paste. Because of this, it might be advantageous to only plan to use peel and stick wallpaper on a single accent wall, rather than trying to paper an entire room or house with it.
