How to Monitor Virtual Memory Usage

    Windows XP

    • 1). Press “Ctrl + Alt + Del” to bring up your task manager.

    • 2). Click on the “Performance” tab.

    • 3). Look at the graph under “PF Usage.” This is the total amount of virtual memory currently in use.

    Windows Vista

    • 1). Press “Ctrl + Alt + Del” to bring up the task manager.

    • 2). Click the “Start Task Manger” link if prompted.

    • 3). Click on the “Performance” tab.

    • 4). Look at the bottom below “System.” Next to “Page File” are two sets of numbers. The number on the left is the current amount of virtual memory in use.

    Windows 7

    • 1). Click on “Start,” then in “Search.”

    • 2). Type, “perform” and press “Enter.”

    • 3). Click the "Add" button on the toolbar.

    • 4). Scroll to and click on “Paging File.”

    • 5). Click the “Add” button on the bottom.

    • 6). Click the “OK” button. This brings you to the performance graph. The red line represents the current percentage of virtual memory in use.
