Depression and Weight Gain
Without a doubt scientists have found a correlation between weight gain and depression.
Weight loss and mood seem to have a direct connection.
Instead of heading right for the antidepressants perhaps we should consider health and fitness before reaching for the pills.
Studies have shown that serotonin and weight gain are directly related.
For example, when one eats junk food and begins to put on pounds the serotonin levels in our brain actually decrease.
Serotonin is the chemical in the brain that is released through exercise and activity.
It is the "feel good" chemical.
So it would make sense that at the opposite end of that spectrum anxiety can cause weight gain.
Anxiety causes a decrease in Serotonin.
Girls and women seem to be even more effected by depression and weight gain.
Even many post pardum patients report a connection between their depression and a feeling of "fat".
Wives have reported that their sex lives suffer with weight gain which in return makes them more prone to depression.
It would seem logical to conclude that drastic weight loss will decrease depression, improve ones sex life, ability to parent, and fight depression.
Before you conclude that it is just too hard to use weight loss as a relief of depression go outside and run as fast as you can down your sidewalk.
Although it may hurt while you are running when you get down the street stop and wait.
You should feel a sensation go through you body beginning with the brain that feels like an adrenaline release.
This feeling is the release of "feel good" chemicals.
The more you seek out that chemical release through activity the more addicted you will become to it.
Your brain will start associating exercise with the feeling of "wonderful"!
