What Are the Healing Reiki Symbols and Where Can You Learn More About Them?

11
Reiki, which its practitioners claim has been of use in the treatment of pain caused by abdominal issues, muscle pain, rheumatism, asthma, arthritis and cramps, as well as joint pain, is based on the Buddhist philosophy that there are blockages produced in the body of a sick person.
These blockages are of the major energy or 'ki' centers of the body.
This blockage produces pain in the same way as water dammed up for a considerable length of time produces pressure, and occurs if the ki centers of the body are misaligned.
The job of the reiki practitioner is to unblock the flow of energy by aligning these ki centers - it is claimed that this helps reduce the pain of blocked energy.
The energies of the body, particularly its ki energies, are massive and dangerous if they are not siphoned off periodically.
Reiki practitioners use their hands a lot, in the belief that these limbs provide a focus of the energy that circulates through their own body and are therefore likely to attract similar energy contained in the body of the sufferer.
Reiki practitioners base these beliefs on their experiences and on the philosophies which underlie the use of reiki, derived from the teachings and work of the famous Buddhist monk and philosopher Masai Usui, who began teaching reiki in Japan in the late 19th century after a vision during a spiritual retreat taught him the 'keys to healing' - as he put it.
Since reiki distinguishes between its adepts, its novices and its masters using certain symbols, it is worthwhile to know what these are.
The reiki healing symbols we will talk about come into play during the second stage of training, and to understand these it is first useful to establish how reiki students learn their art.
In the first stage, the student is made a conduit of reiki energy by the master, who, again using his or her hands, creates a pathway from him/herself to the student's body.
This unlocks the capacity of the student to use the energy now contained within himself to help others whose energy was similarly blocked.
The first stage of reiki is therefore based on the history of reiki, the use of the hands as instruments in guiding energy, and the meanings and manifestations of the 'ki' energies.
Reiki's stage 2 is where it really gets interesting.
Here the student is infused with an even higher level of energy, and his or her vibrations are now capable of being used for the good of others.
It is here that one learns about the three reiki healing symbols, each based on a particular aspect of reiki thought and philosophy.
These are: the Power Symbol, the Symbol for mind (also known as the Mental Symbol), and finally, The Distance Symbol, which allows for the practice of reiki methods over large distances.
It is an interesting fact that the attainment of these symbols obviates the need for the now-master practitioner of reiki to travel to see their students and patients in person.
