Instructions on How to Build Your Own Sub Box
- 1). Calculate the dimensions of the subwoofer box using a subwoofer enclosure calculator. These calculators create very accurate specifications that can be used to cut out the six sides of the subwoofer box. The instruction manual that accompanies your subwoofer will have the diameter of the subwoofer and a recommended box volume, which are necessary inputs for the enclosure calculator. You will also need to measure the depth of the subwoofer, which is from the cone to the bottom of the magnet.
- 2). Cut out the six sides of the subwoofer box using information from the subwoofer enclosure calculator. Label each panel with its intended location on the finished product.
- 3). Sketch a hole for the subwoofer and terminal cup. The subwoofer must be placed in the middle of the front panel while the terminal cup should be located on the middle of the back panel. The subwoofer hole can be drawn using a compass and pencil, while the terminal cup hole should be traced from the outline of the terminal cup.
- 4). Cut out the terminal cup and subwoofer holes with a jigsaw. Drill a hole within the area to be removed and insert the jigsaw at this location.
- 5). Attach the six sides of the subwoofer box together. Pre-drill three holes on each seam and apply carpenter's glue for extra strength. Fasten the panels together using 2-inch screws. Once the medium-density fiberboard is connected, attach the terminal cup using manufacturer supplied screws.
- 6). Place a small bead of silicone caulking along the interior seams of the subwoofer box. Allow to dry for 24 hours since the chemicals in caulking can damage the subwoofer if not completely dried.
