How to Schedule a Recording in Windows Media Center

    Record a Program or Series

    • 1). Click the Windows icon at the top of the screen to access the "Start" page.

    • 2). Press your "Up" and "Down" arrow keys to scroll through the menu. Scroll to "TV."

    • 3). Click "Guide" to display a list of programs. Click the program that you want to record. Media Center will schedule a recording.

    Schedule using Search

    • 1). Click the Windows icon at the top of the screen to display the "Start" window.

    • 2). Scroll to "TV" and click "Search" to display a list of search categories.

    • 3). Click a category and follow the instructions to set up a category search. Windows Media Center will display search results containing television programs and movies.

    Schedule Based on Channel and Time

    • 1). Click the Windows icon at the top of the screen to display the "Start" window.

    • 2). Scroll to "TV" and click "Recorded TV."

    • 3). Click "Add Recording" and then "Channel and Time." A "Channel" text box will appear.

    • 4). Enter the channel that you want to record in the text box. Click the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons next to the "Frequency" text box to set the frequency of the recording. This will determine how often Media Center records the program. If you choose a frequency value of "Record Once," click the plus and minus buttons next to "Date" to set the date of the recording.

    • 5). Enter a start time in the "Start Time" text box and a stop time in the "Stop Time" text box. Click the plus and minus buttons next to "Keep" to set how long you want Media Center to keep the program that you record.

    • 6). Click "Record" to schedule the recording.

    Schedule Based on Keywords

    • 1). Click the Windows icon at the top of the screen to display the "Start" window.

    • 2). Scroll to "TV" and click "Recorded TV."

    • 3). Click "Add Recording" and then "Keyword." Media Center will display a set of categories such as "Actor Name."

    • 4). Click a category and enter a keyword for that category. For example, if you click the "Actor Name" category and want to schedule John Wayne movies, enter "John Wayne" as the keyword. Windows Media Center will perform a search and bring back matching results.

    • 5). Click the result that matches your keyword. Click the plus and minus buttons to adjust the settings that Media Center will use to record the program.

    • 6). Click "Record" and then click "OK."
