Public Land Hunting

• The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources offers many wildlife management areas across the state for public hunting. These areas provide a variety of habitats to provide hunting opportunities for numerous game species. Bear hunting occurs only in Pickens, Oconee, and Greenville Counties located in the western part of the state.
  
  

Private Land Hunting

  Although accessing private land to hunt is not as easy as it once was, there are still options for hunters who do not own land. Hunters can lease land for hunting or join hunting clubs that have land under lease. Numerous hunting guides also provide hunting on private land in South Carolina for deer, boar, and bear.

  The State of South Carolina provides an online system for purchasing hunting licenses and required permits for hunting. Hunters choosing to hunt on Wildlife Management Areas will also need to purchase a permit for this privilege. License may also be purchased at various vendors around the state.
