How to Prepare Matcha

    • 1). Prepare your tea bowl, or mug, by warming it with boiling water.

      Fill it then dump the water and dry thoroughly.

    • 2). Measure out the appropriate amount of matcha powder.

      Use approximately 1 teaspoon of powder for 1 cup of liquid.

    • 3). Use 1 cup of hot, not boiling, water.

      The water should be about 180 F (82 C). Boiling water will make the tea bitter. If you want a creamier matcha, use 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup milk. Add desired liquid to the matcha powder.

    • 4). Whisk the matcha, using a bamboo whisk (chasen).

      Whisk in a "W" pattern until it appears frothy.
