How to Grow Beef Tomatoes

15
    • 1). Prepare a location for the beefsteak tomatoes where they will have well-drained soil and full sunlight. Use a rototiller to work the soil to 10 inches and add 3 lbs. of tomato fertilizer for every 100 square feet.

    • 2). Place the beefsteak tomato plants outdoors to acclimate them to the weather. Start out at 2 hours a day, and add an hour each day until they stay outdoors for six hours a day.

    • 3). Water the beefsteak tomatoes before you plant them. Dig a hole 2 times deeper than the original planting container. Place the beefsteak tomatoes in the holes, and space them 4 feet apart. Plant them in rows five feet wide.

    • 4). Place a support stake next to the beefsteak tomato. Insert an 8-foot wooden stake 1 foot away from the tomato plant and then tie it with cotton twine. When the beefsteak tomato grows, you will need to continue tying it every 10 inches to the stake.

    • 5). Water the tomato plants to keep the soil moist. For best results, water the plants two times a week with ½ inch of water. Always water the beefsteak tomato plants at the soil level instead of on the leaves.

    • 6). Apply 4 inches of organic mulch around the beefsteak tomatoes. This will help to keep the soil moist and warm.

    • 7). Apply a tomato fertilizer to the beefsteak tomatoes when they grow to the size of a ping-pong ball. Continue to apply the fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
