Surviving Bedrest

28
Until you hear the word bedrest from your doctor, it is almost impossible to imagine what it would be like.
There are some who imagine that it would be nice and relaxing, and others who think it would be unimaginably boring.
The truth is that it is a combination of those things, plus discomfort and fear.
With my first child, I was put on left side lying bedrest starting at 30 weeks, so I had plenty of time to figure out how to survive bedrest.
Depending upon your situation, you can use the bedrest time to your advantage, although it won't be fun while you are going through it.
If this is your first child, you can use the time to do some great research on the products that you will need, and also you'll have some time to read some baby books.
The first thing you should try to do is get your computer near when you will be spending most of your time.
I put my laptop on our coffee table and pulled it right up to the couch.
This way you will be able to do most of your research for free and online.
Your bedrest time can also be used to do a craft or hobby.
Because I was on left side lying bedrest, I was unable to do most crafts, but others I know were able to do plenty!I spent my time reading lots of books, including loads of books that I had wanted to read but didn't have the time to.
Another thing that I did was watch movies that I had always wanted to watch but never had the time.
I joined a mail order DVD rental club and filled my queue up with every single movie I ever wanted to watch.
I actually got several per day and just watched one or two over the course of the day.
I also DVR'd movies that were playing on television or cable.
In addition to being boring, bedrest can actually be painful.
Lying in one position can actually be very uncomfortable.
I found that the first week was the hardest.
I was able to prevent pain by shifting my position just a little bit and by keeping as busy as possible.
After the first week, the discomfort seemed to subside.
To me, the most important thing was to relax, get some sleep, and to use the time to my advantage.
Good luck!
