Alabama Hog Hunting
- Hogs, as defined by Carolee Boyles in her article "Cotton State Hog Prospects," are just domestic pigs that have become feral. These animals, an import that arrived with the colonization of America, destroy or damage the environments in which the live. Boyles states that omnivores "damage pastures, timber, agricultural crop and even wildlife plantings" by essentially eating everything.
- The article states that hunting hogs on private land is permitted year-round but limited to daylight hours. No bag limit has been set. To hunt on private land in Alabama, a hunter must acquire written permission from the landowner.
- Hogs may be taken during any season. A hunter is required to use legal firearms for the current season they are participating in. For example, if they are hunting during deer bow season, hogs must be killed with legal bows. Hunting is permitted only on authorized WMAs throughout Alabama. According to "Hunting Feral Pigs On Alabama's WMAs," there are 34 WMAs in Alabama. These areas, however, are not overrun with hogs, and the beasts may not be easy to find.
