    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable (or grounding cable). The grounding cable connects the negative lead of the vehicle's battery to the frame of the vehicle. Loosen the cable's clamp with a Phillips screwdriver or 10-millimeter wrench (depending on the vehicle). Remove the clamp from the negative lead post and set it down away from the battery.

    • 2). Remove the factory stereo. Specific instructions vary among vehicles. Consult your vehicle owner's manual for exact procedures. Disconnect the wiring groups connected to the rear of the factory stereo. Connect the wiring groups to a wiring harness adapter.

    • 3). Insert a faceplate adapter into the opening left by the removed factory stereo. Feed the wiring harness adapter leads through the back of the faceplate adapter.

    • 4). Connect the wiring harness leads to the new stereo. Push the new deck into the faceplate adapter opening until the face is flush with the trim of the adapter.

    • 5). Place the grounding cable clamp around the negative lead post. Tighten the clamp with a Phillips screwdriver or 10-millimeter wrench.
