How to Install Coax Cable in the Interior of the House
- 1). Locate a previously installed coaxial outlet. Remove this outlet from the wall by removing the screws holding it in place.
- 2). Cut the cable connected to the outlet. Connect the end of the cable running into the wall to the "In" terminal on a coaxial splitter; this will be the "mainline" cable. Connect the cable attached to outlet to one of the "Out" terminals. Depending on the number of outlets being installed, additional splitters may be needed.
- 3). Hold the mounting plate against the wall that will hold the new coaxial outlet, relatively the same height as the electrical outlets. Mark the four corners of the opening in the middle of the plate.
- 4). Cut a hole in the drywall using the marked points as a reference.
- 5). Use the faceplate to mark and cut holes in the drywall in every wall that needs a coaxial wall outlet.
- 6). Run a coaxial cable from each newly cut hole through the walls to the splitter in the main line. Threading the cable through the wall can be a frustrating endeavor and a process of trial and error. Connect each cable to the main line's splitter.
- 7). Install each mount for the coaxial outlet, as per the manufacture's instructions. Connect each coaxial cable to their respective wall outlets.
- 8). Screw on all the coaxial wall outlet covers onto the wall, including the cover for the already installed outlet (make sure to place the splitter inside the wall first, though).
- 9). Run a coax cable from a new outlet to its intended device.
