How to Fix Corrupt Registry in Windows Vista

21
    • 1). Visit the website ccleaner.com and download a free copy of Piriform CCleaner. Click "Download Latest Version" on the right hand side near the top of the page.

    • 2). Click "Save File" when prompted. This will save the file to your default download location. This will vary depending on how you set up your copy of Windows Vista.

    • 3). Locate your downloaded installer file and double click it to begin the installation. Using the default install settings, follow the self-explanatory directions to complete the installation. You will have to authorize the install by selecting "Continue" when prompted.

    • 4). Open CCleaner.

    • 5). Select "Registry" from the left hand menu and click "Analyze" at the bottom of the window. Wait for CCleaner to analyze your Windows Vista registry for issues, corruption or other problems.

    • 6). Click "Fix Selected Issues" at the bottom of the window on the right. Make sure all issues listed are selected (it should already have them all selected by default when it finishes analyzing).

    • 7). Select "Yes" when prompted about backing up your registry. Select a location to save the back-up file and save the file. This will allow you to rebuild your registry as it was before attempting to fix corruption in the event a problem arises.

    • 8). Select "Fix All Selected Issues" at the next window and click "OK" when asked if you are sure you want to fix all issues. Close the pop-up window when it is finished.

    • 9). Repeat steps 5-8 until no issues or errors are returned upon analyzing.
