How to Find the Best River Fishing Spots
- 1). Walk along the river and simply watch the water. Many times, you can actually see the fish jump out of the water eating bugs. This will give you a good casting location for certain fish.
- 2). Wait for a day when you can see right through the water. Not only will you be able to see the fish swimming, but you can find their hiding spots and thus an excellent location.
- 3). Look for submerged logs. The fish like to hide under the logs to avoid the heat from the sun. If you cast just right, a large bass or carp could come swimming right out for your hook (though snags are a problem).
- 4). Stick to nice, shaded areas along the shore. Much as the logs provide shade, naturally shaded areas are great for fish, too. Even if the water is less than 1' deep, you can find some pretty large fish here.
- 5). Avoid fishing in the fast currents. Fish avoid these currents because it can be hard to relax or swim against them, so they will often go to the gentle sides of the rivers. You will catch a lot fewer fish in the current.
- 6). After catching a White Perch, stick to the same location. Perch swim in schools. It's almost guaranteed you will catch more perch from that same school.
- 7). Wait until the night to go fishing for cat fish or eels. Night time is when they come out from hiding and it becomes much easier to catch these two species.
