About the Score
To set the tone of the entire album, Danna masterfully combines western orchestrations with eastern melodies within the opening track. Throughout the score, Danna makes use of today's musical technologies by incorporating synthesized instruments and sounds. This unique mix of instruments and harmonies makes for a truly enjoyable aural experience.
About the Composer
This was Danna's first Oscar nomination and win, though he was also nominated in the same night for the Best Song (he lost to Adele's Skyfall). Despite this being his first nomination and win, Danna is no stranger to the business. Many of the movies for which he's composed have been nominated and awarded for Best Film. His previous scores include Moneyball, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, (500) Days of Summer, Fracture, Breach, and Little Miss Sunshine. While accepting his award, Danna thanked director Ang Lee whom helped introduce Danna to Hollywood in the late 90s.
