How to Update Windows XP From a CD
- 1). Obtain a Windows XP Service Pack 3 disc from Microsoft if you do not have regular Internet access, or download the Windows XP Service Pack 3 to a computer that does have Internet access. Burn the Service Pack to a blank CD with the Windows XP CD burner or your favorite burning software.
- 2). Close all programs. Disable your antivirus software by right-clicking on the system tray icon and left-clicking on "Disable." Please consult your antivirus software if you do not see an option to disable, as antivirus software varies.
- 3). Insert the Windows XP Service Pack 3 CD that you purchased or burned.
- 4). Allow Windows time to detect the disc if you ordered an update disk from Microsoft. Click on "Start," then "My Computer" if you burned a CD. Right-click on your CD drive, then left-click on "Explore." Double-click the "WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe" file.
- 5). Click "Next" when the "Windows XP Service Pack 3" window appears.
- 6). Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Restart the computer when prompted to do so.
- 7). Re-enable your antivirus software by right-clicking on the icon in your system tray and left-clicking on "Enable."
