Spy Kids Birthday Party Ideas

32

    Invitations

    • Send invitations in tube mailers or yellow manila envelopes with "top secret" or "confidential" stamped on it. The actual invitations could include a riddle, be written with a code that needs deciphered or written backwards so it needs to be read in a mirror. Use spy terms, such as "Attention all spy kids: Agent Krista needs help with a top secret birthday mission. Report to the Stevenson Spy Academy to accept your mission" followed by the time and date of the party. Include the secret code or a small note instructing guests on how to decipher the message. Write the time and date on the back so no mistakes are made.

    Decorations

    • Footprints outlined in chalk can greet your guests on the walkway, or paper footprints can decorate the walls of the party room. Set up a retina or finger print "scanner" at the entrance to the party. Hang question marks, magnifying glasses or coded phrases made out of construction or butcher paper. Blown up finger prints and yellow "caution" tape can add to the decor as well. Black, white and silver balloons and streamers can help decorate a large area.

    Activities and Games

    • Make spy IDs for each guest with a code name or serial number. Take pictures of the guests to add to the IDs and secure them in lanyards. Let the kids press their fingerprints onto the back of their ID cards, and inspect the prints with magnifying glasses to view the differences.

Set up an obstacle course, including balancing, climbing, jumping and crawling stations for spy kid training. Upon completion of the obstacle course, or at the end of the party, guests could be awarded a spy certificate.

Send the kids on a mission to decode hints and clues to find a "bomb" to diffuse. Combine activities by using a bomb pinata that the kids can diffuse by busting it open.

Set up different piles of disguises for the kids to put on during a relay race. The kids should race around to put on all of the disguises provided--such as hats, glasses, coats and gloves--then take them off so the next guest can put them on. The first team that has each kid wear and discard the disguises wins.

Play the "Spy Kids" movies at the beginning of the party, the end or all throughout. If the party is a sleepover, the movies can provide nighttime entertainment.

    Favors

    • Goody bags can be black bags with question marks, manila envelopes or pencil cases that look like briefcases. Fill the goody bag with a magnifying glass, pencils, pens, notepads, mystery candy and sunglasses.
