Online Sportsbooks Make You More Money Than Their Brick-And-Mortar Counterparts

Apparently most bets placed on sports results are made outside Nevada (99% vs. 1%) - act which is illegal outside Nevada by the way - and most of these are placed through local bookies, or non-regulated sportsbooks.

What's even more interesting is why would people risk betting with a local bookie or going to one of these places when the police could raid in anytime if online sportsbooks are available and allow players to reduce costs?

Online sportsbooks have the advantage of operating through the Internet, and because of it a lot of costs associated with their tangible counterparts disappear. Because online sportsbooks can't offer the same kind of experience a sportsbook in Vegas can, they compensate it by reducing the "juice" they charge players per bet.

You'll find that most tangible venues that deal with sports-betting will charge at least 20% in "juice" (normally seen as -120 in lines) while online sportsbooks reduce this to 10% (-110 in lines).

That may seem like a very small difference just to make it much more attractive, but when you consider the other benefits that online sportsbooks offer, it ends up being pretty enticing; especially since that 10% difference in "juice" will end up making a big difference in the long run.

Consider the fact that online sportsbooks grant you the opportunity to bet from any place in the world - it can be you house, a park, the sewers, anywhere as long as you have an internet connection available - along the special promotions and bonuses they give, as well as the fact that these are located in countries where they can work without legal hassles, and the opportunity to compare odds/lines between different online sportsbooks to select the one that best matches your needs in the moment, there is virtually no reason to keep on using local bookies or going to shady places.

Also, because of the reduced "juice" deal, you can end up making much more money in a relatively short period of time - it also depends on how constantly you bet, and which is your win::lose ratio - and even if you're going through a bad streak, you are to lose less for the same reason.

Think about it; if you were to place ten bets (all looking to win $100 and you go for the favorite each time) and you lose them all, you would lose $1,100 through online sportsbooks, while it would be at least $1,200 through other means. Although those numbers could vary a bit due to several reasons (I know that if you know how to bet you'll see it as well), it gives a rough idea of the difference.

In the end, online sportsbooks are a much better option than betting outside Vegas on local bookies or such. If you're going to take a risk, at least do it somewhere that'll allow you to win more (or lose less).
