    • 1). Clean the wheel barrow out to remove any rocks or dirt from the pan. Spray water into the wheel barrow pan to further remove dirt and debris. Leave the wheel barrow pan wet on the bottom so the Lefarge mortar will blend well.

    • 2). Sift the brick sand through 1/8-inch screen wire to remove any small stones or debris that may hinder the mortars consistency. Add eight rounded shovels of sand to the wheel barrow from the sifted sand pile.

    • 3). Open one end of the Lefarge Type S mortar bag by cutting it with a knife and tearing it open with your hand. Pour half a bag of dry mortar powder onto the sand already in the wheel barrow pan. Mix the two dry ingredients, sand and mortar powder, together using a hoe. Stand at one end of the wheel barrow and pull the sand and powder towards you as you mix. Stand at the opposite end of the wheel barrow and pull the same mix towards you once again until the dry powder is completely combined.

    • 4). Fill a five-gallon bucket up halfway with water. Pour the water into the wheel barrow on top of the dry mix. Standing on one end of the wheel barrow, combine the dry mix and water together by pulling and pushing the hoe through the mortar, sand and water. Mix the mortar until you have the consistency of thick pancake batter.

    • 5). Allow the mortar to set for five minutes in the wheel barrow and out of the sun. Add one to two cups of water to the mixture after five minutes and remix the mortar to pancake batter consistency. Add small amounts of water to the mixture along the way to keep is loose and usable.
