Employers Train Employees Safe Driving Habits

Of the many dangers that working different jobs can present, the number one leading cause of injury and death for workers on the job is automobile accidents. For employers around the country, this presents a huge financial problem because each motor vehicle accident costs on average about $16,500. The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety recently released this information to promote awareness regarding the difficulties that occur following a difficult car accident. This organization works tirelessly to promote safety for both employers and employees regarding auto accidents.

The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety also indicated that the majority of American travel quite a bit during work hours and their commutes. Most commuters travel about 12,000 to 15,000 miles every year. When the roads of the United States are congested with commuters and people rushing to and from work, many accidents can happen say car accident lawyers. More than 41% of the total miles that each person travels during their year are to and from work.

When these statistics are presented, it is easy to see that commuting and traveling during work hours pose considerable threats to the safety of everyone on the road - not just commuters. For this reason, many employers have taken the advice from the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety to heart and begun to train their employees about safe driving practices.

As many people are aware, the economic problems that can arise following a car accident can devastate both company and personal finances. In 2000, employers learned that due to on-the-job accidents, commuting accidents or other traveling incidents, a total of approximately $60 billion was lost. The total amount was so high because it included the time that employees had to take off in order to recover from their injuries.

The other factor involved in the high amount of money lost due to these accidents comes from the various injury lawsuits that companies have to deal with following an on-the-job accident. Even though the average accident results in costs of about $16,500, many accidents that occur to employees that are on the clock or using equipment during work can cost approximately $73,000.

Because of the frequency of these accidents and the massive costs that they can incur, many companies are now choosing to engage in a "safe driving week" wherein the company offers information about safe driving practices. Many companies require mandatory driving lessons and provide information about what to do if you are ever involved in a crash. Keeping up to date about the injuries that poor driving can cause can help to keep everyone motivated about safe driving.
