Belt Tensioner Assembly Installation
- 1). Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. Locate the faulty tensioner in the center of the engine.
- 2). Place a socket wrench on to the end of the tensioner. Most tensioners will have a hole cut in where an empty socket wrench can fit. Some tensioners will have a bolt to place the socket wrench on. Examine the tensioner to see what type it is.
- 3). Loosen the tensioner by pressing down on the socket wrench. Pull the belt off the tensioner pulley.
- 4). Unbolt the tensioner with a socket wrench. Place the bolt to the side and pull the tensioner off the engine.
- 5). Replace with the new tensioner. Tighten the bolt with a socket wrench to secure the tensioner.
- 6). Loosen the tensioner with a socket wrench. Place the belt over the pulley and slowly release the tensioner. The tensioner will tighten the belt as it retracts back to its original position.
- 7). Start the vehicle and allow it to idle. Watch the belt for any sag as it runs its course along the pulleys. If there is any sag in the belt then the tensioner may be faulty or there is another pulley getting weak.
