How to Kill Household Ants Safely
- 1). Sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the floor, along doorways and windowsills, and on countertops--wherever ants have been spotted. Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder, safe for humans and pets, that cuts through the exoskeleton of the ant, causing it to dehydrate and die. Repeat this step for a few nights to ensure you've removed as many ants as possible from local nests.
- 2). Sweep up dead ants on a daily basis using your broom and dustpan.

Pour straight lemon juice into a spray bottle. Spray the areas where ants were previously sighted and allow the lemon juice to dry on the surface. The smell of lemons repels ants and will prevent any stragglers from coming into your home. - 4). Fill another spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar. Spritz any areas outside where you've seen ants making a trail toward your home. Vinegar will wipe out the scent left by the ants, destroying the scent trail they use to find their way back into your home.
