How Society Can Benefit From Educational Reforms

7
The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men Bill Beattie

No one can explain education quite as well as the above saying does. Education should be a constant process in life that doesnt end after school or college. Rather what we usually mistake for education is merely literacy. In India, the picture of education has diverse colors. In the urban areas, there are world class schools and universities but the same picture is rather glum in the remote corners of the country. As of today there is a dire need for educational reforms in the rural areas.

State of Education across the Country

As per a recent analysis, India needs more than 1.6 million faculty members throughout the country. But the grim fact is, the actual faculty is just about 810,000, so overall there is a deficit of around 350,000 faculty members across the universities in India. Whats worse is the bridge is widening. The problem doesnt just limit at the lack of faculty members. There is a huge disparity in the quality of education across the nation.

In spite of the rural areas being a major part of the Indian population, children here do not have access to a robust education system. Education has the potential to empower the underprivileged section of the society but unfortunately, the underprivileged section (rural areas) doesnt have access to quality education.

The government has introduced different educational initiatives that have helped improve the situation in the remote areas. These initiatives are helping to bridge the gap between the quality of education in rural and urban India.

Role of NGO and Corporate India

It is not just the government that is thriving to bring about educational reforms in the country. There is a wide and vast support from NGOs, social welfare, Indian Corporate sector and nonprofit organizations in the country. The focus of these organizations is to create a sustainable education system, which can create a self sufficient structure.

It is much easier and important for the corporate sector to follow the sustainable education pattern. The reason for this is the educated population and students of today will be the work force in these companies tomorrow. To promote a sustainable workforce, the corporate sector has started various educational initiatives that focus on providing the following

Various internship initiatives in colleges
Reducing the learning curve of the employees by giving training at university level while they are still students
Campus placement helps in giving students experience about the job at hand.
Focus on learning the skills that would actually be used in the respective employment sector
These initiatives help in bridging the vast gap between practical knowledge and experience. It reduces the employees learning curve by a drastic margin and companies dont have to spend time as well as money in training activities. These sustainable initiatives help in promoting a strong sustainable education system which will help shape a better tomorrow for India.
