How to Keep a Metal Screw Tight to Metal
- 1). Bind the two sheets of metal to be fastened firmly together with the C-Clamp.
- 2). Mark the location for the screw by striking firmly with the hammer and punch.
- 3). Select a drill bit from the set. Choose a bit that is as wide as the inner shaft, not the threads, of the screw you will use. This will ensure that the screw firmly grips the metal.
- 4). Drill a hole through both sheets of metal.
- 5). Check the edges of the hole to confirm that you left no shards of metal behind.
- 6). Place a lock washer on the shaft of the screw and insert the screw into the hole.
- 7). Tighten the screw with the electric drill and the screw driver bit. Tighten the screw until you halfway compress the lock washer. The washer will not work completely compressed.
