As soon as word gets out that you are expecting a little bundle you can definitely expect to hear plenty of Old Wives Tales.
Little old women everywhere (and some not so old or little) will be predicting the sex of your baby and warning you against all the terrible things that can happen if you should innocently commit a treacherous crime like reaching up to get something off a high shelf.
Apparently it was once believed, and still is by some that if you reach above your head you will tangle the umbilical cord and risk choking your little one.
This is simply not true, many babies are born with the cord wrapped around their neck or other body parts, but it is more due to their acrobatics than yours.
You can certainly expect several guesses on the gender of your baby.
It is widely believed that if the baby is high and the mom gains weight in the front then congratulations it's a girl.
Conversely, if the baby is low and mommy is carrying extra weight in her rear compartment, it must be a boy.
There is no scientific proof that any of this is correct.
However, expect lots of people to say "I told you so" if their prediction comes out correct.
But if you think about it, there was a fifty-fifty chance of them guessing it right from the beginning.
Heck, you could flip a coin with those odds.
There is no real harm to these games and predictions so it won't hurt to just kick back and have a little fun with it.
Then again, I would think twice about investing in a wardrobe of baby blue based how massive the view appears as mom leaves the room.
