Steelwork Fixings - New Technique To Replace The Old Ways!

29
A large market has grown up for steelwork fixings much along the line of fixings of the Lindapter type.
The steelwork market started with all the fixings being permanent and with no chance of addition or variation.
Originally the steel beams and plates were fitted by rivets and bolts in fixed positions through drilled holes.
As steelwork progressed the channels and beams changed and there became a need for more flexible fixings which could be added afterwards or changed, as the requirements changed.
If a set of shelves needed to be hung from channel or equipment or signs fitted, these now required a new system of fixings.
This new system appeared in a set of clamps and wedges that fitted into channels or clamped the various additional pieces together to form the supports or bases required.
In supported and suspended decking floors they are used to clamp services to the floor without damaging the integrity of the floor.
These clamps and wedges needed to be strong and permanent until the fixings are released and they are now made from steel or malleable iron and tested to the loads required.
The services can be laid just where they need to go and the clamps are of such variety that they can easily be used to clamp trays, channels and similar to the existing structure.
The clamps and wedges are of such a friction that they will not move under the most intense pressures.
They can come with swivel joints to meet changes in direction and can be fitted using all the usual tools an engineer will have.
They do not require any purpose made tooling.
They can also be dismantled easily and re-fixed where necessary without any major heartache's.
If there is a necessity to clamp 2 girders together this can be done with the minimum of fuss while still retaining the integrity of the connection.
For the sign business a framework can be assembled and all the letters then added and secured by a selection of clamps and wedges without any recourse to external power tools.
It is probably one of the easiest systems to fit because of the adaptability of the connection fixings and the fact that power tools are not required.
There is also a great advantage that the structure does often not have to be designed to an exact layout but it can be changed in the construction by the simple movement of the clamps and wedges as needs demand.
