    Hunting and Fishing Licenses

    • An estimated 1,700 locations across the state of Texas sell fishing and hunting licenses. These establishments include gun shops, sporting goods stores, grocery stores and retail stores. Hunters can obtain resident and temporary licenses with all five endorsement stamps, which include saltwater fishing, archery, freshwater fishing, upland game bird and migratory game bird.

    Fishing

    • Texas offers the opportunity to hunt for waterfowl, white deer, quail, boar and a variety of other animals. As long as you obtain the proper license, you can hunt in designated areas, such as parks with ranches, lakes and on private property. Besides your fishing or hunting license, carry additional state identification, stay within your designated possession limit, retrieve your game and do not waste game intentionally.

    Large Animals

    • Texas has an abundance of white-tailed deer, wild hogs and exotic game. Pearsall, Texas, is known as the “Hunter’s Paradise” where there is an estimated 675,000 acres of hunting grounds. Maverick Outfitters have numerous ranches within a two-hour drive from San Antonio. A one-on-one guide helps the hunter catch the game desired during the hunt.

    Small Animal

    • The national forest is home to numerous small animals, including gray squirrels and fox squirrels. The most sought after small game in the national forest include the fox squirrels and gray squirrels. Fox squirrels favor bottomland hardwood stands that consistently produce acorns. Typically, rivers and creek are near these hardwood stands. Fox squirrels stay between the bottomland and upland, where there is a combination of pine and hardwood. Typically, this area has a variety of scattered nuts.

    Safety

    • When hunting wear daylight fluorescent orange. The fluorescent orange must display at least 400 square inches. One hundred and forty-four square inches must be visible on both the chest and back. In addition, the hunter must wear a daylight fluorescent hat. Exceptions include hunting migrating birds or hunting turkey and while hunting at night for predatory or fur-bearing animals.
