The Many Advantages of Inpatient Rehabilitation

22
When an addict makes the decision to seek outside help for their addictions there are basically two types of treatment/rehabilitation centers available, inpatient or outpatient.
There is somewhat of a large difference between the way the two types of treatment work.
Both are beneficial but, understanding the difference will help both the addict and their loved ones decide which would be the most beneficial to them.
Inpatient and outpatient both offer counseling and therapy to the addict as well as their loved ones and both will educate them on the effects of the substance of choice.
An inpatient treatment program requires the addict to reside at the treatment facility for the duration of their treatment.
The amount of time spent in the treatment facility will vary according to several things such as the substance used, the extent of addiction and the addicts ability/willingness to get clean.
The average time to expect is approximately three to six weeks for intensive treatment and they may stay inpatient for more time or be referred to outpatient.
The advantages to inpatient rehabilitation include the continuous care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There are medical personnel on staff to help with the withdraw and other medical symptoms as well as psychological staff available to help with the emotional needs.
While receiving treatment as an inpatient the addict is assured to receive proper recommended nutritional and life skill therapies.
Inpatient treatment centers are also extremely beneficial in preparing the addict for going back out on their own where the temptations are.
They will learn extensive tools to help prevent relapse, receive encouragement, advice and be able to be around staff and other addicts to relate their feelings to.
While in an inpatient treatment center there will be opportunities for family and friends to visit, and you will have the opportunity to make phones calls as well.
The treatment centers also offer therapy sessions that will include your loved ones when applicable.
The opportunity for your family to go through counseling is beneficial for both you and them.
The therapies during inpatient will be available at several different times as opposed to as an outpatient when you have make arrangements to be at the session.
Group therapy is also available for inpatient as well as outpatient and gives you the opportunity to know that there are others who think like you when it comes to an addiction.
The advantages to inpatient rehabilitation are numerous and very beneficial to addicts that are at risk of relapsing when going to an outpatient treatment center.
The inpatient is a very structured environment which will prepare you for handling life situations before going to outpatient treatment.
