How to Remove a C5 Rear Wheel Hub
- 1). Put the wheel chocks around the front wheels of the C5. Lift up the rear of the Corvette with the jack and put the car on jack stands. Take off the rear wheels with the tire iron and move them out of the way. Unplug the connection on the wheel speed sensor with your hands.
- 2). Unbolt the brake caliper from the rear knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then hang the caliper from the rear fenderwell with the j hook. Pull off any clips that may be around the lugs securing the rotor in place using the needle-nose pliers. Pull the rotor off of the rear hub.
- 3). Unbolt the tie rod from the knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and then lift the tie rod out of the knuckle. Unbolt the axle nut from the center of the hub with the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket.
- 4). Unbolt the upper and lower control arm from the rear knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then pull the knuckle out of the rear suspension. Unbolt the hub from the knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, and then separate the two components.
