Galapagos Islands: Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints

Wildlife

The obvious attraction to the Galapagos Islands is its wildlife. The Galapagos Islands are famous for their diversity in wildlife species, preserved by the small number of inhabitants and limited human footprint. Each island forms a unique ecosystem, a series of specialised relationships that have adapted to the volcanic and isolate nature of the islands. As a result the islands have become the world's most famous bio-diverse area: home to the largest tortoises of the world, the most northern penguins, as well as dolphins, sea lions and marine iguanas.

The first record of the Galapagos Islands is by Spaniard Toms de Berlanga in 1535, remarking on the tameness of the wildlife €...so silly that they do not know to flee, and many were caught in the hand€. This is still true today and the islands are one of the few places on earth where you will be out-stared by its inhabitants, making a Galapagos cruise a photographer's paradise.

Activities

The vast array of ecosystems in the Galapagos Islands is also good news for the adventurers among us. From off-shore to on-land activities you will find it hard to be bored in the Galapagos on a luxury cruise. The excursions available range in intensity levels meaning your trip can be tailored to your preferences.

From snorkelling to dolphin watching, kayaking to panga rides, water-lovers are spoilt for choice in the Galapagos Islands. Dolphins, whales and sea lions are far from a rare sight and the Galapagos give you the perfect opportunity to experience these creatures up close and personal in their natural habitat.

For those who prefer to stay on shore, volcano trekking and exploring the fauna-rich tidal pools are popular choices. Joined by a naturalist guide, you will walk in the footsteps of Darwin where you will take in the preserved surroundings which once inspired €The Crigin of species'. Here you can follow the giant tortoise through the forests and watch blue-footed booby feed their young. Tidal pooling gives you the opportunity to see up-close starfish, sea urchins and the only marine Iguanas in the world.

How to travel

A Galapagos cruise is undoubtedly the best way to experience this unique World Heritage Site. A luxury cruise allows you to relax in the comfort of opulent surroundings without the worry of getting from island to island. You can enjoy €luxury, naturally', with 5 star on-board hospitality coupled with the breath-taking scenery outside.

Additionally, as a UNESCO-protected area, the national park limits mean that unlike most world-famous tourist attractions, you won't be tripping over other visitors. Instead you will have an exclusive experience of the islands, which remain untouched, reminiscent of Charles Darwin's trip back in 1859.
