How to Select a Golf Ball Type Based on Swing Speed
- 1). Test your swing speed by taking your driver to a reputable golf shop that has a swing speed analyzer. The analyzer will measure the swing speed as well as your launch angle and ball spin.
- 2). Hit a number of balls using the swing speed analyzer. Determine your average swing speed with the driver.
- 3). Determine if you need more distance or more control. Some of this will be based on the courses that you regularly play and how much trouble a wayward shot will get you into.
- 4). Review the compression ratings on various golf ball packages. Some packages will list the optimum swing speed for that ball, but all should list the compression. A higher compression ball will generally go farther. A lower compression ball will spin more and will help you control the ball.
