How to Fix a Freeze in Microsoft Chkdsk

    • 1). Restart the system. Press "F8" at the boot screen until the advanced boot options screen loads. Select the "Safe Mode" menu item and press "Enter."

    • 2). Press the Windows button on the keyboard and click "All Programs." Open the "Accessories" folder and right-click "Command Prompt." Click "Run as Administrator."

    • 3). Type "CHKDSK c:/p" in the prompt. This scans for system errors and bad sectors and then repairs them. Press "Enter."

    • 4). Reboot your system once the CHKDSK tool completes.
