How to Prime Stove Pads
- 1). Scrub the stove pads clean, using a degreasing cleanser and steel wool. Eliminate any oils or dirt on the pads, or the primer will not stick.
- 2). Rinse the stove pads with wet rags. Let the pads dry for two hours.
- 3). Cover the area of the wall immediately behind or next to the stove pads, using masking paper and painter's masking tape. Cover the portions of the floor immediately adjacent to the pads, using thick, canvas drop cloths.
- 4). Wear a protective respirator.
- 5). Coat the stove pads with a high-temperature spray primer. Spray the pads in a left-to-right sweeping motion. Maintain a constant 8-inch space between the stove pads and spray nozzle tip, or the finish may end up marred with flaws. Let the pads dry for at least three hours.
- 6). Paint the stove pads as you primed them. Use either a high-temperature spray epoxy or enamel. Let the pads dry for at least three hours.
