How to Shoot Slugs With a Mod Choke
- 1). Load your shotgun with a slug in the same manner you load a shot shell. Slug types are rifled, Brenneke, and sabot. Rifled and Brenneke slugs are fired through any smooth-barrel shotgun, using any choke. Sabot slugs are for special "rifled" shotgun barrels. Sabots must not be fired through smooth, choked barrels.
- 2). Aim at your target. Slugs have a maximum effective range of about 100 yards. Familiarize yourself by shooting at a target 50 yards distant. Determine if there is any drop from your aim point, or any drift to the right or left.
- 3). Hold the stock firmly against your shoulder. Slug shells have the highest recoil of any shell fired from your shotgun. Shoot several rounds to establish how well the slugs group on the target. The slug should hit the bull's-eye at 50 yards, and hit about 5 inches low at 100 yards.
