How to Use Muriatic Acid to Clean Up Paint & Etch Concrete Floors
- 1). Open windows and doors to provide ventilation if you aren't working outside.
- 2). Put on protective wear.
- 3). Dampen the surface, using a water hose or a mop and bucket.
- 4). Pour a gallon of water into a 5-gallon bucket. Add 12 oz. of muriatic acid to the water. (Put the water in first to prevent the acid from splashing.) Use a long-handle scrub brush to mix the water and acid.
- 5). Use the scrub brush to apply the solution to the paint or bare concrete floor.
- 6). Wait five minutes, then sprinkle the acid with baking soda.
- 7). Combine 8 oz of ammonia with a gallon of water inside the 2-gallon bucket.

Remove the loosened paint, using a metal putty knife and 80-grit sandpaper. Skip this step if your only intent is to etch the concrete.
