36
From the time your baby is born till she reaches the age of 3 months, she is considered to be a newborn.
During this time your baby will do a lot of sleeping during the day.
Of course they will cry when they are hungry, when they have a dirty nappy or when they have wind.
Your newborn is growing and developing dramatically.
Her digestive system is particularly fragile during the early months of life and that is why it is majorly important for your baby to get the correct diet.
The Food Your Newborn Baby Needs 1.
Newborn can only be given two things; Breast milk or a formula designed for your babies age.
As we all know breast is best and breast feeding is recommended for your baby up to at least the age of 6 months.
Breast milk is rich is essential nutrients such as vitamins, mineral and antibodies which are transferred from the mothers body directly to the newborn.
Formula however is designed to be an adequate replacement for breast milk as some mothers choose not to breast feed.
Formula also contains everything the baby needs to develop, grow and fight diseases.
A Newborn Feeding Schedule 2.
When a baby is first born they tend to need feeding quite regularly.
At the beginning your baby may not follow any particular schedule.
Breast fed babies usually needing feeding every 2 - 3 hours.
Formula fed babies tend to need fed every 3 - 4 hours.
Signs That Your Baby May Be Hungry 3.
You should never stick to a fixed schedule with your newborn baby! When your baby is hungry she will need fed.
Do not decide not to feed your baby when they are upset just because they have not reached the 3 hours between feeds that your nurse said she should.
You will know that your baby is hungry when she roots for the nipple or bottle, when she is sucking and moving her lips or when she is just upset for no other known reason.
How Much To Feed Your Baby 4.
In the first month of life your newborn will drink around 2 - 4 ounces of formula.
In the second month she which drink 5 - 6 ounces and in month 3 she will be drinking about 7 ounces.
Babies who are breast fed will just stop feeding when satisfied.
Do Babies Need Any Supplements 5.
During the first six month she will need no supplement at all.
Breast milk or formula is all the baby needs.
If breastfed she may be prescribed some vitamin D if a test reveals it is low in their blood.
Warning 6.
At around 6 months solid can be introduced to the diet.
However if you introduce them any sooner it may result in the baby gaining excessive weight, allergies and even digestive issues such as indigestion.
Newborns should never be given cows milk as it is too strong for the babies digestive system.
