Old Computers - How To Get Rid of Them

6
Sitting on a shelf by your desk is that old computer.
You've moved on to bigger, better, and faster PC's.
You'd like to do something with it, but there's no one to hand it down to, and now, many charities won't accept them unless they're of very recent vintage.
Simply throwing it away is out of the question as well.
With all the heavy metals lurking inside that case, you'd have to pay someone to dispose of it properly.
That's galling, particularly when you consider the thing still works.
Well, following the old axiom that "one man's trash is another man's treasure" I'd like to offer a solution.
While your computer as a whole may be unsalable, the parts in it still have a market.
I'll guarantee there are people out there trying to keep PC's of the same vintage as your old computer alive.
They would like to buy your CPU, your motherboard, and your old capture card.
There is a market for vintage RAM, and other items.
Will your parts be worth big bucks? In most cases, no.
A few items, like certain capture cards, can do surprisingly well, however.
Video editors may need them for older versions of Adobe Premiere and similar programs that they've grown to prefer using.
For the rest, the best way to look at it is that you're getting a few bucks rather than paying someone to take it off your hands.
Of course, eBay is an obvious market for your parts.
You could sell virtually all of them there, with the exception of one item I'd advise you to hang onto.
That's your hard drive.
Even if you wipe it clean, criminals will still have ways of extracting information from it.
