How to Tweak Your Virtual Memory Settings in Windows XP
- 1
YOU FIRST NEED TO GET TO THE VIRTUAL MEMORY MENU
To do this click on your start button on the task bar, then right click the control panel icon and click on the performance and maintenance icon, click on the system icon and click on the advanced tab.
The first box should say performance and just below the right of it will be a settings button. Click on that button and click on the advanced tab. From here the bottom box will say virtual memory and give you an option to change that amount. - 2). CHANGE YOUR VIRTUAL MEMORY AMOUNT
So your probably wondering what you should change the amount too right? The standard is 1.5 times the amount of RAM that you have on your pc, so for example if you have 256 MB of Ram 1.5 of that is approximately 384MB you should allocate to virtual memory. - 3). ALTERNATIVES TO INCREASING YOUR VIRTUAL MEMORY
Because the average user installs more applications over the life of their pc and the fact that most applications are getting bigger these days, your best bet to resolve or save your virtual memory is to increase the RAM in your computer.
