Question: How can I get red of the neon green or yellow eyes in flash pictures of my cat?

I hate it when an otherwise good picture of my cat shows those bright green or yellow orbs instead of his beautiful eyes. Is there any way I can fix those cat pictures?

Answer:

That display of neon green eyes in cat pictures is very common (called "pet redeye"), and its cause is in the tapetum ludicum found below the retina in cats' eyes, which helps give them their remarkable night vision.

As the tapetum ludicum reflects back light so cat can see better, it also reflects back the flash from your camera.

Don't despair though, because you can often correct those pictures to display at least a semblance of your cat's own eyes. Sue Chastain, the About Guide to Graphics Software, has created a tutorial for Removing Pet Redeye in Pictures. It is written to be non-software specific, so give it a try with your own graphic software program. I think you'll be pleased.
