How to Fix Windows Vista Voice Chat
- 1). Check your audio card to see if it has its own volume configuration tool. If it does, make sure it's not set to block volume from the software. An audio card that's set to block volume from the software will inhibit your ability to use Windows Vista voice chat.
- 2). Locate the speaker icon in the bottom right-hand corner if your audio card doesn't have its own volume configuration tool. Click the icon.
- 3). Look for the "Volume Mixer" window after you click the speaker icon. Click on "Mixer."
- 4). Make sure the IM applications' volumes are set at an appropriate volume. They should not be set very low or on mute as this could affect your ability to use voice chat.
- 5). Make sure you don't have an incorrect audio card driver. Click the "Start" menu in the bottom left-hand corner of your computer screen.
- 6). Click "Run" and type in "devmgmt.msc." This will bring up the "Device Manager" window.
- 7). Locate your audio card on the list and check the status. If the audio card is in abnormal status, you may not be able to use your Windows Vista voice chat. Microsoft Support can help you fix this issue. The Microsoft Corporation Client TechCenter also recommends you visit the Dell Drivers and Downloads page for assistance with this step.
